Summits & Conferences

The UNM PRC often hosts, or co-hosts, conferences and summits for our staff and colleagues, both inside the university and beyond. These venues provide opportunities for professional development, networking, and knowledge exchange. Below are a few examples of some recent summits.

PRC, RWJF, and NM CARES Joint Summit - Addressing Health Equity through Research, Policy and Systems Change

This first time event brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners from three successful Centers at the University of New Mexico, along with elected officials and their representatives and other key leaders concerned with the human and financial costs of New Mexico's high rates of chronic disease, obesity, child abuse, substance abuse and other health disparities. The purpose of this summit is to forge a consortium that includes our three centers and other partners to address and advance New Mexico's health status through prevention, policy, and practice. We are excited to bring together examples of outstanding and successful efforts underway to move New Mexico forward and for all participants to connect with one another as a resource.

CHILE Plus 2015 Summit

In May 2015, the PRC’s CHILE Plus Team hosted a summit to bring together staff from Head Start centers across New Mexico who have been participating in CHILE Plus since 2012. This one day summit included presentations by CHILE Plus staff on accomplishments and future directions for the program. Head Start staff shared their own experiences implementing CHILE Plus and demonstrated ways in which they have tailored lessons and activities to their own communities and cultures, while maintaining fidelity to the CHILE curriculum. The CHILE Plus staff led discussion groups with Head Start administrators and teaching staff to examine the successes and challenges of CHILE Plus implementation, and to explore strategies for sustainability. In keeping with the mission of CHILE Plus, the summit featured healthy meals and snacks and opportunities for physical activity throughout the day. The team looks forward to hosting the next CHILE Plus Summit in 2016.
