Biography

Patricia C. Keane, MS, RD

Associate Scientist, Nutrition
Lecturer II (LAT), Department of Pediatrics
Prevention Research Center

Ms. Keane serves as principal investigator or co-investigator for multiple nutrition-related research projects and programs in primarily rural and underserved communities throughout New Mexico.

Her main interests include identifying and developing community strategies to improve child health and nutrition status in New Mexico, particularly for low-income families with limited food access. She is also interested in furthering the understanding of how food and nutrition policies and environments influence dietary attitudes, behaviors, and subsequent health outcomes.

In addition to her role at the PRC, Ms. Keane has taught community nutrition at UNM and regularly presents on food insecurity, child nutrition, nutrition education, and food and nutrition policy. In a volunteer capacity, Ms. Keane has served as the President and Public Policy Coordinator for the New Mexico Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She recently completed a three-year term on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Legislative and Public Policy Committee, for which she chaired the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Work Group. She currently serves on the Academy's Farm Bill Work Group, and was recently appointed to the Institute of Child Nutrition's Child and Adult Care Food Program National Advisory Committee. Ms. Keane also serves on the Roadrunner Food Bank Board of Directors, for which she chairs the Healthcare Advisory Committee and is a member of the Advocacy Committee.

Prior to joining the PRC, Ms. Keane completed her Dietetic Internship and Master of Science degree in Nutrition at the University of New Mexico, with an emphasis in pediatric nutrition. She was a Maternal and Child Health nutrition fellow in the NM Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND)/ NM Leadership Excellence and Education in Pediatrics (LEEP) program from 2007-2009, and has conducted community-based nutrition research in both in New Mexico and Peru.
